Job Description

The NMR Research Lab Specialist will have primary responsibility for the optimal maintenance and operation of the NMR spectrometers and helium recovery system.

• Coordinates all activities in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility, includes nitrogen and helium fills, billing, and maintenance of NMR instruments.
• Ensure optimal maintenance and operation of the NMR spectrometers and helium recovery system in the Department of Chemistry NMR facility.
• Train, supervise and support facility users (students and researchers) with and provide technical assistance in experimental design, and data analysis.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Plans, coordinates, and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques related to NMR
• Directs the collection and supports the interpretation of data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs, as appropriate to the specific position; prepares manuscripts for publication; presents research results to scientific conferences and other groups.

Qualifications:

• M.S. in a research area that utilizes NMR spectroscopy with 3-5 years of related experience in a research environment.
• Preferred: Ph.D. in a research area that utilizes NMR spectroscopy
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining Bruker NMR spectrometers, consoles and probes.
• Experience with common NMR software used for data collection and analysis.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to effectively interact with and support the facility’s diverse and multidisciplinary user base.

Responsibilities include:

• Works with Bruker NMR instrumentation.
• MS, PhD preferred.

Basic Qualifications:

• Skilled and seasoned NMR facility manager or user with extensive experience.
• NMR technical expertise, hands on experience with troubleshooting NMR instrumentation.
• Scientific inquiry/ understanding of chemistry applications of the NMR.
• Training protocols for new users.

• Experience with NMR billing procedures.
